Building an Order-Ahead app

This was an idea of a friend of mine, Jack Shalom . He had a vision to build a platform which can quickly spin up a new mobile app for a restaurant that can be marketed for their customers to place pick up orders. Our target market was small mom-and-pop shops in NYC that were using some sort of modern POS (Point of Sale) system.

Building Authentication as a Serverless Microservice

Recently, Dan Baker and I completed a project which involved refactoring our monolithitcal application to pull out the authentication component, and make it a microservice of its own. As our company grows, and we hire more and more developers, a lot of the new development goes into building new microservices, and each of these microservices needs to authenticate all of their HTTPS requests. Instead of relying on our legacy authentication system, which is tied to CakePHP, an MVC framework, we decided to build a new serverless authentication microservice.

How I built this site

Before I get to the how, lets go through the why. I wanted to build this site as a place to store my opinions, thoughts, knowledge and stories. I easily could have just built a wordpress or wix site in no time, but as a software engineer, I felt the need to built the entire website from ground up, and manage everything myself, and its cheaper! I wanted to build my own version of Wordpress.
